If I stop to think about it, it's a daunting prospect. Over the next few months I will take over a million steps. I will make time in my busy schedule to educate others. I will fight, and I will make a difference. I will join thousands of others on a three day trek.
I'm talking about the Breast Cancer 3-Day. I am going to be walking (or crawling) 60 miles over the course of three days. All for a cause devoted to education, early detection and ultimately curing breast cancer.
Without a cure, 1 in 8 women in the US will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer. In the time you've read this sentence another woman has be diagnosed with breast cancer and every 13 seconds, it will take another life. While these statistics are scary, the promise is heartening. Today there more women than ever are performing self exams, receiving mamagrams and there are now more than 2.3 million breast cancer survivors in the US.
When I committed my support to the Breast Cancer 3Day, I promised to raise at least $2,200 for the cure. My personal goal is to raise $3,500 and inspire 5 others to join me and my wife Nancy in the walk. The proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
What kind of world do you want?
I've joined this fight for all the women in my life. I'm fighting for my wife, mother, aunt, nieces, friends, and co-workers. I want a world where my daughter doesn't have to give breast cancer a second thought. Think about the people in your life who are or may be affected by breast cancer.
Yes, this is a plea for emotional and financial support. I suggest a donation of a penny for every 100 steps I will take ($100), a dollar for every mile of the walk ($60) or whatever you are comfortable giving. Your donation and support play a key role in fight for a cure.
If you'd like to do more, I'd love to talk to you about taking the first steps in your own million step journey or to help by volunteering. Please pass this plea on to your friends and family. Thank you in advance for whatever you can give.
Please join me in my journey and fight for a cure.
Together we WILL make a difference.
